Early this morning, a single vehicle crash killed a man from Belmont, LA.

Troopers responded to the crash around 4:00 am, which occurred on LA Hwy 175 north of LA Hwy 1216. The crash involved a 1998 Suzuki ATV, driven by Jonathan D. Sims (W/M 28 yrs). The Suzuki was north bound on LA Hwy 175 when Sims was ejected or fell from the vehicle. A passing motorist discovered the crash after observing the headlights of the ATV along the wood line. The exact time of the crash is unknown.

Sims was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

The public is reminded that it is dangerous and illegal to operate off-road vehicles (i.e. three-wheelers, four-wheelers, and other all-terrain vehicles) on any public roadway in this state.

Troop E troopers have investigated 48 fatal crashes for the year of 2011, resulting in 50 fatalities.
