Last night, a crash involving two vehicles killed a young man from Winnfield, LA.

Troopers responded to the crash around 6:30 pm, which occurred on US Hwy 84 east of Winnfield. The crash involved a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle, driven by Jonathan T. Taylor (W/M 21 yrs) and a 2001 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by Evie A. Jones (W/F 75 yrs) of Winnfield. The Suzuki was east bound on US Hwy 84 when Taylor pulled onto the shoulder and attempted to turn around at the intersection of Cherokee Drive and US Hwy 84. This action caused the east bound Chevrolet to collide with the Suzuki.

Taylor was ejected from the motorcycle and was wearing a helmet. He was transported to Rapides Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

Jones was wearing her seatbelt and received minor injuries. Her only passenger, identified as Judge E. Jones (W/M 81 yrs) of Winnfield, was wearing his seatbelt and received minor injuries. Both occupants were transported to Winn Medical Center.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!”

Troop E troopers have investigated 52 fatal crashes for the year of 2011, resulting in 55 fatalities.
