TROOP E - NEWS RELEASE September 21, 2011 Child Safety Seat Event In Alexandria The Louisiana Child Passenger Safety Task Force (LPSTF), the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, and Louisiana State Police Troop E are conducting a free child passenger safety seat check-up event on Saturday, September 24, 2011 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. The event will take place at Walker Automotive, 1616 MacArthur Drive, Alexandria, LA. No appointment is necessary. It is a proven fact that car seats and booster seats save lives. These devices offer the best protection for children in the event of a crash. However, approximately 3 out of 4 child seats are not used correctly. This misuse rate can be attributed to the great variety of child seats available, the great range of children’s weights and heights, and the vast array of vehicles in today’s market. These misuses span all races, educational levels, and socioeconomic status. This event is part of the “National Child Passenger Safety Week” (September 18-24, 2011). Nationally certified child passenger safety technicians will be on site to provide proper installation and instruction. There will be a limited number of free car seats and booster seats available. Every Louisiana State Police troop is recognized by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) as a child safety seat “Inspection Station”. Troop E troopers/technicians are available seven days a week to inspect car seats. Appointments can be made by calling (318) 769-9872.
