Young Teenager Killed In Crash

Earlier today, a crash involving one vehicle killed a young teenager and seriously injured another.

Troopers responded to the crash around 11:30 am, which occurred on Billy Stiles Road near LA Hwy 486, in Natchitoches Parish. The crash involved a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am, driven by a juvenile (W/M 13 yrs) of Campti, LA. The Pontiac was north bound on Billy Stiles Road when the juvenile lost control and exited the left side of the roadway. After exiting the left side, the vehicle reentered the roadway before exiting the right side and colliding with a tree.

The juvenile driver was not wearing his seatbelt and received serious injuries. He was transported to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport for treatment. His only passenger, Colton T. Gourdon (W/M 14 yrs) of Clarence, LA, was not wearing his seatbelt and was pronounced dead.

Excessive speed is considered a factor in the crash.

Routine toxicology tests and charges are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

Troop E troopers have investigated 42 fatal crashes for the year of 2010, resulting in 48 fatalities.
