Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: September 23, 2010 Teenager Killed In Catahoula Parish Crash Late last night, a single vehicle crash killed one teenager and injured another. Troopers responded to the crash around 11:50 pm, which occurred on Brown Road. The crash involved a 2004 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Brandon J. Smart (W/M 18 yrs) of Harrisonburg, LA. The Chevrolet was west bound on Brown Road when Smart lost control and exited the left side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle traveled through a ditch and collided with a tree. Smart received moderate injuries and was transported to LaSalle General for treatment. His only passenger, identified as Corbin L. Carpenter (W/M 19 yrs) of Jonesville, LA, was pronounced dead. Seatbelt use is unknown for Smart and Carpenter. Alcohol use is a suspected factor. Routine toxicology tests and charges are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E troopers have investigated 45 fatal crashes for the year of 2010, resulting in 51 fatalities.
