Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: September 28, 2010 School Bus Involved In Vernon Parish Fatal Crash Earlier today, a crash involving two vehicles killed a man from Texas and injured two school children. Troopers responded to the crash around 3:45 pm, which occurred on LA Hwy 28 east of LA Hwy 8. The crash involved a 2010 GMC pickup, driven by Jimmy D. Pollock (W/M 64 yrs) of Newton, TX and a 2009 Bluebird school bus, driven by George R. McKenzie (W/M 70 yrs) of Leesville, LA. The GMC was west bound on LA Hwy 28 when Pollock collided with the rear of the school bus. At the time of the collision, the school bus was west bound on LA Hwy 28, stopped discharging children, with all warning lights activated. Pollock was pronounced dead at the scene. McKenzie was not injured in the crash. Twenty children were passengers on the school bus at the time of the crash. Two children received minor injuries and were transported to Byrd Hospital for treatment. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E troopers have investigated 48 fatal crashes for the year of 2010, resulting in 54 fatalities.
