| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: March 18, 2011 Rapides Parish Fatal Crash Earlier today, a single vehicle crash killed a pedestrian. Troopers responded to the crash around 1:30 pm, which occurred on LA Hwy 28 East, east of Deville, LA. The crash involved a 2006 International (dump truck), driven by Eric K. Ellis (B/M 33 yrs) of Alexandria, LA and a pedestrian, identified as Calvin L. Towle (W/M 60 yrs) of Alexandria, LA. The International was backing east bound on the west bound shoulder, unloading shoulder material. Towle, a flagman, was behind the International and failed to notice the vehicle backing. The International subsequently hit Towle. Ellis was not injured. Towle was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E troopers have investigated eleven fatal crashes for the year of 2011, resulting in twelve fatalities.
