Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: March 18, 2011 Avoyelles Parish Fatal Crash Earlier today, a single vehicle crash killed a pedestrian. Troopers responded to the crash around 4:30 pm, which occurred on LA Hwy 115, north of Hessmer, LA. The crash involved a 2011 Eldorado transit bus, driven by Craig McGhee (B/M 47 yrs) of Simmesport, LA and a pedestrian, identified as Pricilla A. Courtney (B/F 48 yrs) of Hessmer, LA. The Eldorado was north bound on LA Hwy 115 when Courtney entered the north bound lane from a ditch located on the east side of the roadway. Courtney attempted to cross the roadway and despite McGhee’s evasive actions, his vehicle collided with her. McGhee was not injured. Courtney was airlifted to Rapides General Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E troopers have investigated twelve fatal crashes for the year of 2011, resulting in thirteen fatalities.
