Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: April 14, 2011 Young Woman Killed In Avoyelles Parish Crash Late this afternoon, a crash involving three vehicles has killed a Baton Rouge woman and has left two others with moderate injuries. Troopers responded to the crash around 4:15 pm, which occurred on US Hwy 71 at Goux Road. The crash involved a 1999 Toyota Camry, driven by Amberly T. Bossom (W/F 20 yrs) of Baton Rouge, LA, a 2002 Dodge SUV, driven by Laura Wade (W/F 20 yrs) of Evergreen, LA, and a 2008 Volvo (18 wheeler), driven by Roger Hutto (W/M 56 yrs) of Thomasville, GA. The Toyota was north bound on US Hwy 71, in a curve, traveling behind the Volvo. Bossom then entered the south bound lane of US Hwy 71 in an attempt to pass the Volvo in a marked no passing zone. This action caused the Toyota to collide with the Dodge, which was south bound. After this collision, the Toyota collided with the rear of the Volvo. Bossom was wearing her seatbelt and was transported to Rapides Regional Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead. Wade was wearing her seatbelt and received moderate injuries. She was transported to Cabrini Hospital. Her only passenger, identified as Ross G. Ryder (W/M 54 yrs) of Evergreen, LA, was wearing his seatbelt and received moderate injuries. He was transported to Cabrini Hospital. Hutto was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E troopers have investigated sixteen fatal crashes for the year of 2011, resulting in seventeen fatalities.
