Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: April 21, 2011 Hessmer Woman Dies In Rapides Parish Crash Earlier today, a single vehicle crash killed a woman from Hessmer, LA. Troopers responded to the crash around 2:30 pm, which occurred on LA Hwy 1 at Old River Road. The crash involved a 2008 Toyota Rav4, driven by Inez J. Smith (W/F 61 yrs). The Toyota was north bound on LA Hwy 1 when Smith lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with a tree before overturning. Smith was not wearing her seatbelt and was ejected. She was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E troopers have investigated seventeen fatal crashes for the year of 2011, resulting in eighteen fatalities.
