Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: February 8, 2011 Natchitoches Parish Fatal Crash Earlier today, a single vehicle crash killed a woman from Coushatta, LA. Troopers responded to the crash around 4:30 pm, which occurred on US Hwy 71 north of LA Hwy 486. The crash involved a 2010 Lincoln MKT, driven by Sheryl W. Smith (W/F 63 yrs). The Lincoln was north bound on US Hwy 71 when Smith lost control and exited the left side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with a tree. Smith was wearing her seatbelt, but was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E troopers have investigated eight fatal crashes for the year of 2011, resulting in nine fatalities.
