| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: January 12, 2011 Simmesport Public Officials And Citizens Arrested Investigators from the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations/Alexandria Field Office have arrested the Chief of Police of Simmesport, two part time Simmesport Police Officers, the former Fire Chief of Simmesport (in office at time of incident), and two citizens (not associated with law enforcement) of Simmesport following a lengthy investigation. Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigation Division was contacted in reference to possible criminal acts being committed by the Officers of the Simmesport Police Department. The complaint listed allegations of theft, damage to city property, arson, and malfeasance in office. This subsequently led to the issuance of arrest warrants for multiple individuals that were determined to be involved. The investigation revealed that these individuals either stole from and/or damaged the inside of a vacant building, as well as the intentional burning of a Simmesport Police Department police car (*see below for each individual’s specific charges related to their involvement in the crime or crimes). Two additional arrests are expected on charges stemming from the complaint. The remaining two individuals are not law enforcement officers. All individuals below have voluntarily surrendered to Louisiana State Police Investigators and have been booked into the Avoyelles Parish Detention Center.
