Earlier today, a single vehicle crash killed a man from Pollock, LA.

Troopers responded to the crash around 12:45 pm, which occurred on LA Hwy 8 west of Bentley, LA. The crash involved a 2006 Ford pickup, driven by Howard D. Eller (W/M 82 yrs). The Ford was west bound on LA Hwy 8 when Eller lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle reentered LA Hwy 8 before exiting the left side and colliding with a tree.

Eller was pronounced dead. Seatbelt use is unknown.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!”

Troop E troopers have investigated 66 fatal crashes for the year of 2011, resulting in 70 fatalities.
