Pedestrian Killed In Concordia Parish Crash Late yesterday afternoon, a single vehicle crash killed a man from Vidalia, LA.
Troopers responded to the crash around 5:40 pm, which occurred on US Hwy 84 in Vidalia. The crash involved a 2005 Dodge pickup, driven by Richard Dwayne Thomas (W/M 48 yrs) of Vidalia and a pedestrian, identified as Daniel C. Savoy (W/M 51 yrs) of Vidalia. The Dodge was east bound on US Hwy 84 when Savoy walked into the roadway and was struck.
Thomas was not injured.
Savoy was pronounced dead at the scene.
Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
When walking near a roadway always make yourself visible to drivers by wearing bright/light colored clothing and reflective materials. Pedestrians that are walking at night should try to carry a flashlight for added safety. A person should always walk on a sidewalk, but if there is not a sidewalk available, you should always walk on the shoulder or if no shoulder is available, as close to the roadway edge facing traffic. Troop E troopers have investigated 67 fatal crashes for the year of 2011, resulting in 71 fatalities.
