Fort Polk Man Seriously Injured In Vernon Parish Crash Late this afternoon, a single vehicle crash seriously injured a man from Fort Polk, LA.
Troopers responded to the crash around 4:35 p.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 28 West near Allen Gordy Road. The crash involved a 2010 Ford Escape, driven by Scott Thigpen (W/M 24 yrs). The Ford was westbound on LA Hwy 28 West when Thigpen lost control and exited the left side of the roadway into the median. After entering the median, the vehicle collided with a rock embankment, which is located between two bridges, before impacting the embankment on the opposite side and overturning.
Thigpen was wearing his seatbelt, but received serious injuries. He was transported to Rapides Regional Medical Center.
Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
While not all crashes are survivable, seatbelts can greatly decrease the occupant’s chance of death and will greatly reduce the extent of injury.
