Elderly Pedestrian Killed In Vernon Parish Crash

Early this morning, a crash involving a single vehicle and a pedestrian killed a man from Leesville, LA.

Troopers responded to the crash around 8:00 a.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 121 south of LA Hwy 489. The crash involved a 2007 Honda CRV, driven by Gloria P. Toney (W/F 78 yrs) of Leesville and a pedestrian, identified as Eddard L. Morrison (W/M 88 yrs). The Honda was southbound on LA Hwy 121 when it struck Morrison, who was either sitting or lying on the edge of the southbound lane.

The crash actually occurred around 5:30 a.m., but Morrison was not discovered until 8:00 a.m. and was deceased. Toney was unaware she had struck a pedestrian and did not stop at the scene. She was later located.

Toney was wearing her seatbelt and was not injured.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. Possible charges are pending which will be based on the outcome of the investigation.

When walking near a roadway, always make yourself visible to drivers by wearing bright/light colored clothing and reflective materials. Pedestrians that are walking at night should try to carry a flashlight for added safety. A person should always walk on a sidewalk, but if there is not a sidewalk available, you should always walk on the shoulder or if no shoulder is available, as close to the roadway edge facing traffic.

Troop E Troopers have investigated 51 fatal crashes in 2012, resulting in 56 fatalities.
