Bicyclist Killed In Vernon Parish Crash Last night, a crash involving a bicycle killed a young man from Leesville, LA.
Troopers responded to the crash around 9:40 p.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 117 near Mary Hunt Road. The crash involved a bicycle, ridden by Joshua Pilley (W/M 21 yrs) and a 2005 Honda Accord, driven by Logan K. Craft (W/M 19 yrs) of Anacoco, LA. Both vehicles were southbound on LA Hwy 117 when the Honda collided with the bicycle. After the collision, the bicycle exited the right side of the road and overturned.
Pilley was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead.
Craft was not injured.
Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
Louisiana law requires that every person operating a bicycle upon a roadway shall ride as near to the right side of the roadway as practicable.
Bicycle helmets are 85% effective in reducing total head and brain injuries. Bicycle helmets are the single most effective way to reduce fatalities due to head injuries. When wearing a bicycle helmet, make sure it fits snugly on your head and the clasp is locked.
Troop E Troopers have investigated two fatal crashes in 2013, resulting in two fatalities.
