TROOP E NEWS RELEASE May 7, 2013 Pineville Woman Killed In Rapides Parish Crash Rapides Parish – Earlier today, a single vehicle crash killed a woman from Pineville, LA. Troopers responded to the crash around 7:00 a.m., which occurred on I-49 south of LA Hwy 112. The crash involved a 2006 Honda Accord, driven by Linda T. Jett (B/F 58 yrs). The Honda was southbound on I-49 when Jett lost control and exited the left side of the roadway into the median. After exiting the left side, the vehicle reentered I-49 southbound and exited the right side before colliding with several trees. After the collision, the Honda became engulfed in flames. Jett was able to be removed from the vehicle, by a passing motorist, but was later pronounced dead at Rapides Regional Medical Center. It is unknown if she was wearing a seatbelt. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. While not all crashes are survivable, seatbelts can greatly decrease the occupant’s chance of death and will greatly reduce the extent of injury. Troop E Troopers have investigated fourteen fatal crashes in 2013, resulting in fourteen fatalities.
