TROOP E NEWS RELEASE May 8, 2013 Teenager Killed In Fiery Crash Natchitoches Parish – Late this afternoon, a crash involving two vehicles killed a teenager from Bossier City, LA. Troopers responded to the crash around 5:10 p.m., which occurred on I-49 near LA Hwy 485. The crash involved a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt, driven by Savanna Frances Spencer (W/F 19 yrs) and a 2013 Kenworth, driven by Raymond Owen Roy (W/M 56 yrs) of Mount Pleasant, TX. The Chevrolet was northbound on I-49 when Spencer lost control and exited the left side of the roadway into the median. The Chevrolet then entered the southbound lanes of I-49 and collided with the Kenworth. After impact, both vehicles became engulfed in flames. It is unknown if Spencer was wearing her seatbelt. She was pronounced dead. Roy was wearing his seatbelt and received moderate injuries. He was transported to Natchitoches Regional Hospital. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. While not all crashes are survivable, seatbelts can greatly decrease the occupant’s chance of death and will greatly reduce the extent of injury. Troop E Troopers have investigated sixteen fatal crashes in 2013, resulting in sixteen fatalities.
