TROOP E NEWS RELEASE May 26, 2013 Jena Man Killed In UTV Crash Catahoula Parish – Early this morning, a crash involving a UTV killed a man from Jena, LA. Troopers responded to the crash around 1:15 a.m., which occurred on Parhams Road near LA Hwy 600. The crash involved a Polaris UTV, driven by Benjamin Doyle Hailey (W/M 36 yrs). The Polaris was westbound on Parhams Road when Hailey lost control and exited the right side of the road. After exiting the roadway, Hailey overcorrected the UTV which caused it to begin overturning. Hailey was not wearing a seatbelt or a helmet. He was ejected and pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. The public is reminded that it is dangerous and illegal to operate off-road vehicles (i.e. three-wheelers, four-wheelers, and other all-terrain vehicles) on any public roadway in this state. Troop E Troopers have investigated eighteen fatal crashes in 2013, resulting in eighteen fatalities.
