TROOP E NEWS RELEASE June 11, 2013 Motorcyclist Killed In Concordia Parish Crash Concordia Parish – Earlier today, a single vehicle crash killed a man from Vidalia, LA. Troopers responded to the crash around 2:20 p.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 566. The crash involved a 2009 Kawasaki motorcycle, driven by David M. Welch (W/M 33 yrs). The Kawasaki was westbound on LA Hwy 566 when Welch lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the motorcycle began overturning. Welch was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Motorcyclists must wear a proper US D.O.T. helmet when operating their motorcycle on Louisiana roadways. Although not all crashes are survivable, properly utilizing safety equipment like approved motorcycle helmets and seatbelts decrease your risk of serious injury or death. Troop E Troopers have investigated 21 fatal crashes in 2013, resulting in 21 fatalities.
