TROOP E NEWS RELEASE June 12, 2013 Pedestrian Seriously Injured In Crash Concordia Parish – Late last night, a crash involving a pedestrian seriously injured a man from Ferriday, LA. Troopers responded to the crash around 11:00 p.m., which occurred on US Hwy 65 in Concordia Parish. The crash involved a 1996 Toyota Camry, driven by Leroy Strickland (B/M 57 yrs) of Natchez, MS and a pedestrian, identified as Derrick L. Butler (B/M 35 yrs). The Toyota was northbound on US Hwy 65 in the right lane when it collided with Butler, which was walking northbound in the right northbound lane. Strickland was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured. Butler received serious injuries and was transported to Rapides Regional Trauma Center. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. When walking near a roadway always make yourself visible to drivers by wearing bright/light colored clothing and reflective materials. Pedestrians that are walking at night should try to carry a flashlight for added safety. A person should always walk on a sidewalk, but if there is not a sidewalk available, you should always walk on the shoulder or if no shoulder is available, as close to the roadway edge facing traffic.
