TROOP E NEWS RELEASE May 2, 2013 Concordia Parish Fatal Crash Concordia Parish – Last night, a crash involving two vehicles killed a man from Waterproof, LA. Troopers responded to the crash around 9:10 p.m., which occurred on US Hwy 84 east of LA Hwy 566. The crash involved a 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by Richard E. Nelson (W/M 27 yrs) and a 2013 International (18 wheeler), driven by Andre T. Lowery (B/M 40 yrs) of Magnolia, MS. The Chevrolet was westbound on US Hwy 84 when Nelson lost control and crossed the centerline into the opposing lane. This action resulted in the Chevrolet colliding with the eastbound International. Nelson was not wearing his seatbelt and was pronounced dead. Lowery was wearing his seatbelt and received minor injuries. His only passenger, identified as Ronald D. Delaughter (W/M 47 yrs) of Wesson, MS, was not injured. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Troop E Troopers have investigated thirteen fatal crashes in 2013, resulting in thirteen fatalities.
