TROOP E - NEWS RELEASE April 18, 2013 Hessmer Man Killed In Crash Avoyelles Parish – Early this morning, a single vehicle crash killed a man from Hessmer, LA. Troopers responded to the crash around 3:45 a.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 115 near Hessmer. The crash involved a 2006 Nissan Titan, driven by Joey P. Henderson (W/M 36 yrs). The Nissan was northbound on LA Hwy 115 when Henderson lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle impacted a driveway and began overturning before becoming engulfed in flames. It is unknown if Henderson was wearing his seatbelt. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash remains under investigation. While not all crashes are survivable, seatbelts can greatly decrease the occupant’s chance of death and will greatly reduce the extent of injury. Troop E Troopers have investigated twelve fatal crashes in 2013, resulting in twelve fatalities.
