News Release – Troop E March 29, 2013 Fatal Crash Involving A Lawn Mower In Concordia Parish On March 29, 2013, at 4:50 p.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a fatal crash involving a lawn mower on Louisiana Highway 129 west of Louisiana Highway 565. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2005 Ford Taurus, driven by 27-year-old Casey Paul of Monterey, was traveling north on Louisiana Highway 129 when it struck a Hustler Super Duty Zero-Turn Lawn Mower, driven by 86-year-old Oran Allen of Monterey, that was attempting to cross Louisiana Highway 129. Allen suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash and was transported to Riverland Medical Center where he died. Paul was properly restrained and did not report any injuries. Alcohol use is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. Toxicology samples were taken and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Troopers would like to remind equipment operators to watch for traffic when crossing or working near roads, driveways, parking lots, building corners, shrubs, trees and other blind spots. Traffic moves quickly and you should be aware of your surroundings at all times.
