TROOP E - NEWS RELEASE April 3, 2013 Pedestrian Killed In Vernon Parish Crash Vernon Parish – Late last night, a crash involving a pedestrian killed a man from Leesville, LA. Troopers responded to the crash around 10:00 p.m., which occurred on US Hwy 171 north of Leesville. The crash involved a 2005 Ford F-350, driven by April C. Prince (W/F 33 yrs) of Leesville and a pedestrian, identified as Clifford D. Zeno (B/M 60 yrs). The Ford was southbound in the outside lane of US Hwy 171 when it struck Zeno. Zeno was walking in the southbound outside lane of travel at the time of the collision. Prince was wearing her seatbelt and was not injured. Zeno was wearing dark colored clothing at the time of the collision. He was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. When walking near a roadway always make yourself visible to drivers by wearing bright/light colored clothing and reflective materials. Pedestrians that are walking at night should try to carry a flashlight for added safety. A person should always walk on a sidewalk, but if there is not a sidewalk available, you should always walk on the shoulder or if no shoulder is available, as close to the roadway edge facing traffic. Troop E Troopers have investigated ten fatal crashes in 2013, resulting in ten fatalities.
