Earlier today, a crash involving two vehicles killed a man and seriously injured another.

Troopers responded to the crash around 8:30 am, which occurred on LA Hwy 3170 west of LA Hwy 1.
The crash involved a 2005 Dodge pickup, driven by Joshua Michel (W/M 21 yrs) of Simmesport, LA and a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by Demetrius Grimes (B/M 32 yrs) of Alexandria, LA. The Dodge was east bound on LA Hwy 3170 when Michel crossed the centerline and collided with the west bound Chevrolet.

It is unknown if Michel was wearing his seatbelt. He was transported to Rapides Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.

Grimes was wearing his seatbelt, but was pronounced dead.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!”

Troop E troopers have investigated ten fatal crashes for the year of 2012, resulting in twelve fatalities.
