Alcohol Suspected In Avoyelles Parish Serious Injury Crash

Early this morning, a single vehicle crash seriously injured a man from Plaucheville, LA.

Troopers responded to the crash around 3:45 am, which occurred on LA Hwy 107 near DuPont, LA. The crash involved a 2005 Ford pickup, driven by Nicholas M. Turner (W/M 21 yrs) of Plaucheville, LA. The Ford was south bound on LA Hwy 107 when Turner lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with a mailbox and several trees before overturning.

Turner was wearing his seatbelt and sustained moderate injuries. He was transported to Opelousas General. His only passenger, identified as Phillip B. Pepiton (W/M 21 yrs), sustained serious injuries and was transported to Lafayette General. It is unknown if he was wearing his seatbelt.

Alcohol is a suspected factor in the crash. Toxicology tests and charges are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

Motorists must be reminded that alcohol has many effects on the body. Alcohol can impair visual ability, alter sense of time and space, impair fine motor skills needed to operate a motor vehicle, and decrease reaction times. Just one drink may cause these effects.

Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!”
