Earlier today, a single vehicle crash killed a young man from Elizabeth, LA.

Troopers responded to the crash around 10:50 am, which occurred on LA Hwy 458 near Fullerton Pond in Vernon Parish. The crash involved a 1998 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Devin J. Strother (W/M 18 yrs). The Chevrolet was west bound on LA Hwy 458 when Strother lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle reentered LA Hwy 458 and exited the left side. Strother then overcorrected his vehicle and exited the right side of the roadway again before colliding with a tree.

Strother was not wearing his seatbelt and was pronounced dead.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!”

Troop E troopers have investigated eleven fatal crashes for the year of 2012, resulting in thirteen fatalities.
