TROOP E - NEWS RELEASE

March 10, 2012

Grant Parish Fatal Crash

Early this morning, a single vehicle crash killed a young man from Dry Prong, LA.

Troopers responded to the crash around 2:45 am, which occurred on LA Hwy 1241 near Prospect, LA. The crash involved a 2007 Dodge Charger, driven by a juvenile (W/F 17 yrs) of Pineville, LA. The Dodge was south bound on LA Hwy 1241 at a high rate of speed. The juvenile driver lost control and exited the left side of the roadway before the vehicle overturned several times.

The juvenile driver was wearing her seatbelt, but received serious injuries. She was transported to Rapides Regional Medical Center. Ethan Michael Catteruccia (W/M 21 yrs) was a passenger in the vehicle. He was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected. He was pronounced dead. There were two additional passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The first was a juvenile (W/F 17 yrs) of Colfax, LA and the second was a juvenile (W/F 16 yrs) of Pineville, LA. Both received moderate injuries and were transported to Rapides Regional Medical Center.

Alcohol use is suspected. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

Motorists must be reminded that alcohol has many effects on the body. Alcohol can impair visual ability, alter sense of time and space, impair fine motor skills needed to operate a motor vehicle, and decrease reaction times. Just one drink may cause these effects.

Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!”

Troop E troopers have investigated twelve fatal crashes for the year of 2012, resulting in fourteen fatalities.
