**UPDATE**Pedestrian Killed In Vernon Parish Crash **The pedestrian is identified as Trevor R. Phillips (W/M 21 yrs) of Osceola, MO.
Late last night, a crash involving one vehicle and a pedestrian killed a man from out of state.
Troopers responded to the crash around 11:30 pm, which occurred on US Hwy 171 south of LA Hwy 1211. The crash involved a 2010 Chrysler Sebring, driven by Aaron D. Blackwell (B/M 19 yrs) of Bogalousa, LA and a pedestrian (W/M 21 yrs). The Chrysler was south bound on US Hwy 171 when Blackwell collided with the pedestrian that was attempting to cross the roadway.
Blackwell was not injured. Alcohol is suspected and Blackwell has been charged with vehicular homicide.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead. His identity will be released once notification has been made to his family.
Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
Motorists must be reminded that alcohol has many effects on the body. Alcohol can impair visual ability, alter sense of time and space, impair fine motor skills needed to operate a motor vehicle, and decrease reaction times. Just one drink may cause these effects. Troop E troopers have investigated thirteen fatal crashes for the year of 2012, resulting in fifteen fatalities.
