Early this morning, a single vehicle crash killed a young woman from Leesville, LA.

Troopers responded to the crash around 4:00 am, which occurred on Belview Road near LA Hwy 117. The crash involved a 2007 Mazda MZ6, driven by Marci A. Sterling (W/F 22 yrs). The Mazda was south bound on Belview Road when Sterling lost control and exited the left side of the roadway before overcorrecting and exiting the right side of the roadway. After exiting the right side, the vehicle collided with a tree.

Sterling was not wearing her seatbelt and was ejected. She was pronounced dead.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!”

Troop E troopers have investigated fourteen fatal crashes for the year of 2012, resulting in sixteen fatalities.
