News Release – Troop E April 6, 2012 Fatal crash in Sabine Parish On April 6, 2012, at 6:17 p.m., troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a two vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 191 south of Grady Hill Road in Sabine Parish that claimed the life of a Zwolle woman and seriously injured a 4-year-old passenger. Preliminary investigation revealed the crash occurred when a southbound 2002 Dodge pickup driven by 37-year-old Ricky Mitchell of Many, LA crossed the double yellow centerline and struck a 2006 Pontiac driven 34-year-old by Bessie Lynn Harvey of Zwolle in the northbound lane head-on. Harvey died as a result of her injuries. A 4-year-old passenger in Harvey’s vehicle was transported by air ambulance to LSU Shreveport Hospital in critical condition. Mitchell was transported by air ambulance to LSU Shreveport hospital with moderate injuries. All occupants were restrained. Alcohol or drug use has not yet been determined. Toxicology samples were obtained from the drivers and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending. While the exact cause of this crash has not yet been determined, inattentive and distracted driving is a leading cause of crashes in our state. Motorists are urged to be attentive and make driving their primary task anytime they are behind the wheel. Additional information on distracted driving may be found online at www.distraction.gov.
