Mansura Man Killed In Avoyelles Parish Crash Last night, a crash involving one vehicle and a pedestrian killed a man from Mansura, LA.
Troopers responded to the crash around 6:40 pm, which occurred on LA Hwy 115 north of LA Hwy 114. The crash involved a 2005 Buick Rainier, driven by Mary F. Duplantis (W/F 68 yrs) of Lake Charles, LA and a pedestrian, identified as Wilbert J. Ducote (W/M 76 yrs). The Buick was north bound on LA Hwy 115 when Ducote entered the north bound lane from the west side of the roadway. This action resulted in the Buick colliding with Ducote.
Duplantis was wearing her seatbelt and was not injured.
Ducote was wearing black shoes, black pants, and a black shirt. He was pronounced dead.
Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
When walking near a roadway, always make yourself visible to drivers by wearing bright/light colored clothing and reflective materials. Pedestrians that are walking at night should try to carry a flashlight for added safety. A person should always walk on a sidewalk, but if there is not a sidewalk available, you should always walk on the shoulder or if no shoulder is available, as close to the roadway edge facing traffic.
Troop E troopers have investigated seven fatal crashes for the year of 2012, resulting in nine fatalities.
