TROOP E - NEWS RELEASE

January 24, 2012

Unrestrained Woman Killed In Concordia Parish Crash

Yesterday evening, a single vehicle crash killed a woman from Vidalia, LA.

Troopers responded to the crash around 6:00 pm, which occurred on LA Hwy 3180 west of US Hwy 65. The crash involved a 1992 Nissan Maxima, driven by Carolyn M. Williams (B/F 42 yrs). The Nissan was east bound on LA Hwy 3180 when Williams lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, Williams overcorrected her vehicle, reentered the roadway, and exited the left side before the vehicle overturned.

Williams was not wearing her seatbelt and was ejected. She was pronounced dead.

Alcohol use is a suspected factor, but routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!”

Motorists must also be reminded that alcohol has many effects on the body. Alcohol can impair visual ability, alter sense of time and space, impair fine motor skills needed to operate a motor vehicle, and decrease reaction times. Just one drink may cause these effects.

Troop E troopers have investigated three fatal crashes for the year of 2012, resulting in four fatalities.
