Late last night, a single vehicle crash killed a man from DeRidder, LA.

Troopers responded to the crash around 11:15 pm, which occurred on Harvey Crossing Road near LA Hwy 464. The crash involved a 2003 Ford Taurus, driven by Ricky Charles Keel (W/M 32 yrs). The Ford was north bound on Harvey Crossing Road when Keel lost control and exited the left side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with a tree before overturning and becoming engulfed in flames.

Keel was wearing his seatbelt and was pronounced dead.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

While not all crashes are survivable, seatbelts can greatly decrease the occupant’s chance of death and will greatly reduce the extent of injury.

Troop E troopers have investigated 33 fatal crashes in 2012, resulting in 36 fatalities.
