LaSalle Parish Fatal Crash Late last night, a single vehicle crash killed a man from Rayville, LA.
Troopers responded to the crash today, when it was reported, around 10:15 am. The crash occurred on LA Hwy 28 near the LaSalle/Rapides Parish line and involved a 2007 Chevrolet pickup, driven by William V. Jones (W/M 53 yrs). The Chevrolet was east bound on LA Hwy 28 when Jones lost control and exited the left side of the roadway before colliding with a guardrail. After colliding with the guardrail, the vehicle collided with a concrete embankment, overturned, and came to rest submerged in a creek.
Jones was not wearing his seatbelt and was pronounced dead.
Based on the coroner’s assessment of the time of death, it is believed that the crash occurred last night around 10:00 pm.
Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!”
Troop E troopers have investigated 34 fatal crashes in 2012, resulting in 37 fatalities.
