TROOP E - NEWS RELEASE

June 30, 2012

Sabine Parish Serious Injury Crash

Late this afternoon, a crash involving two vehicles seriously injured a teen from Georgia.

Troopers responded to the crash around 4:40 pm, which occurred on LA Hwy 6 at LA Hwy 3118. The crash involved a 1995 GMC pickup, driven by Celeste R. Swatling (W/F 18 yrs) of Acworth, GA and a 2000 Ford pickup, driven by Huey L. Patton Jr. (W/M 37 yrs) of Leesville, LA. The GMC was east bound on LA Hwy 6 when Swatling drove over a hill and positioned her vehicle on the east bound shoulder. After positioning her vehicle on the shoulder, she attempted to make a U-turn. This action caused the east bound Ford to collide with the GMC.

Swatling was not wearing her seatbelt and received serious injuries. She was transported to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport.

Patton Jr. was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured. His only passenger, identified as Billy W. Curtis (46 yrs) of Natchitoches, LA, was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!”
