TROOP E - NEWS RELEASE

July 9, 2012

Pineville Man Killed In Grant Parish Crash

Earlier today, a single vehicle crash killed a man from Pineville, LA.

Troopers responded to the crash around 3:20 pm, which occurred on Rock Hill Road near US Hwy 71. The crash involved a 1998 GMC pickup, driven by James A. Lewis (W/M 64 yrs). The GMC was west bound on Rock Hill Road when Lewis lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with a tree.

Lewis was wearing his seatbelt, but was pronounced dead.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

While not all crashes are survivable, seatbelts can greatly decrease the occupant’s chance of death and will greatly reduce the extent of injury.

Troop E troopers have investigated 36 fatal crashes in 2012, resulting in 40 fatalities.
