TROOP E - NEWS RELEASE
July 17, 2012
Motorcyclist Killed In Sabine Parish Crash Late last night, a single vehicle crash killed a man from Sugartown, LA.
Troopers responded to the crash around 10:05 p.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 191 near Walkerville Road. The crash involved a 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by Millard J. Acklin (W/M 49 yrs). The Harley was south bound on LA Hwy 191 when Acklin lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the motorcycle entered a ditch and began overturning.
Acklin was wearing a helmet, but was pronounced dead at the scene.
Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
Motorcyclists must wear a proper US D.O.T. helmet when operating their motorcycle on Louisiana roadways. Although not all crashes are survivable, properly utilizing safety equipment like approved motorcycle helmets and seatbelts decrease your risk of serious injury or death.
Troop E troopers have investigated 39 fatal crashes in 2012, resulting in 43 fatalities.
