Early this morning, a single vehicle crash killed a man from Bentley, LA.

Troopers responded to the crash around 1:15 am, which occurred on US Hwy 71 in Rapides Parish. The crash involved a 2009 Harley Davidson, driven by Eugene F. Ewert (W/M 51 yrs). The Harley was north bound on US Hwy 71 when Ewert lost control and exited the left side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle entered a ditch and began overturning.

Ewert was ejected and was wearing a helmet. He was pronounced dead.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!”

Troop E troopers have investigated 20 fatal crashes in 2012, resulting in 22 fatalities.
