Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: October 24, 2008 Simmesport Man Killed In Avoyelles Parish Crash On Friday, October 24, 2008, at 1:04 am, Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a fatal crash involving one vehicle. The crash occurred on LA Hwy 1183, milepost 1.0, in Avoyelles Parish. The crash involved a 2006 Dodge pickup, driven by Mr. Thomas A. Lacombe (W/M 54 yrs) of Simmesport, LA. The Dodge was south bound on LA Hwy 1183 when Mr. Lacombe lost control and ran off the left side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the Dodge collided with a utility pole before coming to rest. Mr. Lacombe was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. Avoyelles Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct an investigation to determine the exact cause of death. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E Troopers have investigated 51 fatal crashes for the year of 2008, resulting in 56 fatalities. Nine of the 51 fatal crashes have involved pedestrians. Five fatal crashes have involved an ATV and four have involved a motorcycle. Twenty-six of the 33 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants.
