Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: October 16, 2008 Two Vehicle Crash Claims The Life Of A Campti Man On Thursday, October 16, 2008, at 6:34 am, Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a fatal crash involving two vehicles. The crash occurred on US Hwy 71, milepost 134.9, in Natchitoches Parish. This location is approximately 1.7 miles south of LA Hwy 3163 and approximately 0.1 miles north of LA Hwy 486. The crash involved a 2003 Ford pickup, driven by Mr. Terry Jordan (W/M 51 yrs) of Provencal, LA and a 1997 Dodge pickup, driven by Mr. Abron Waters (W/M 61 yrs) of Campti, LA. The Ford was north bound on US Hwy 71 and the Dodge was south bound on US Hwy 71 prior to the collision. Mr. Jordan lost control of his vehicle and entered the south bound lane. This action placed his vehicle in the direct path of the Dodge, which resulted in the collision between the two vehicles. Mr. Jordan received moderate injuries and was transported to Natchitoches Regional Medical Center. He was not wearing a seatbelt. Mr. Waters was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt. Mr. Jordan was charged with Careless Operation (LRS 32:58) and No Seatbelt (LRS 32:295.1) Routine toxicology tests are pending. Natchitoches Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct an investigation to determine the exact cause of death. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E Troopers have investigated 48 fatal crashes for the year of 2008, resulting in 53 fatalities. Eight of the 48 fatal crashes have involved pedestrians. Five fatal crashes have involved an ATV and three have involved a motorcycle. Twenty-five of the 32 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Nine fatal victims were restrained.
