Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: October 18, 2008 Twenty-five Motorists Cited During Troop E’s Insurance Checkpoint In Rapides Parish On Saturday, October 18, 2008, Louisiana State Police Troop E conducted an insurance checkpoint between the hours of 8:15 am to 12:15 pm. The checkpoint was conducted on LA Hwy 3170 near LA Hwy 1. During the checkpoint, twenty-five motorists were cited for insurance violations, two seatbelt citations were issued, and two child restraint citations were issued. Troopers also issued 31 non-moving violations. During the checkpoint, 708 vehicles were screened. This insurance checkpoint was conducted to encourage compliance with the state’s compulsory insurance law. Our goal is to greatly reduce the number of people driving without insurance and to remove uninsured vehicles off the road. State law requires that proof of valid insurance be carried in the vehicle at all times. Troop E will be conducting numerous checkpoints (i.e. seatbelt checkpoints, insurance checkpoints, and DWI checkpoints) throughout the year. Motorists should expect aggressive enforcement in these areas of interest.
