**UPDATE**Fatal Crash In Avoyelles Parish

**On Thursday, November 06, 2008, Louisiana State Police Troop E arrested Ms. Maxine Evans and charged her with DWI (LRS 14:98 1st), one count of Vehicular Homicide (LRS 14:32.1), two counts of Vehicular Negligent Injuring (LRS 14:39.1), and Driving Left of Center (LRS 32:79). Ms. Evans was served with the arrest warrant when she voluntarily surrendered herself to Troopers at Troop E. She was then booked into the Avoyelles Parish Detention Center. On Sunday, October 5, 2008, at 7:10 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a fatal crash involving two vehicles. The crash occurred on LA Hwy 1, milepost 243.1, in Avoyelles Parish.

The crash involved a 2006 Toyota Camry, driven by Ms. Maxine Evans (B/F 43 yrs) of Alexandria, LA and a 2000 Honda Civic, driven by Mr. William E. Kincade (B/M 93 yrs) of Alexandria, LA. The Toyota was south bound on LA Hwy 1 and the Honda was north bound on LA Hwy 1 prior to the crash. The Toyota crossed the centerline causing the collision between the two vehicles.

Ms. Evans received minor injuries and was transported to Avoyelles Hospital. Her only passenger, Leverne Spice (52 yrs) of Colfax, LA, received moderate injuries and was transported to Avoyelles Hospital.

Mr. Kincade was pronounced dead. His only passenger, Ms. Shirley Vaughn (54 yrs) of Alexandria, LA received moderate injuries and was transported to Rapides General Hospital.

Avoyelles Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct an investigation to determine the exact cause of death.

Routine toxicology tests are pending.

The crash remains under investigation.

Troop E Troopers have investigated 47 fatal crashes for the year of 2008, resulting in 52 fatalities. Eight of the 47 fatal crashes have involved pedestrians. Five fatal crashes have involved an ATV and three have involved a motorcycle. Twenty-four of the 31 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Nine fatal victims were restrained.
