Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: November 8, 2008 Natchitoches Man Seriously Injured In Crash On Saturday, November 08, 2008, at 8:09 am, Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a serious injury crash involving two vehicles. The crash occurred on LA Hwy 174, milepost 43.5, at the I-49 exit ramp (Exit 155). The crash involved a 2001 Saturn Scion, driven by Mr. Steven D. McCardle (W/M 22 yrs) of Houma, LA and a 2001 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Mr. Ricky W. Strebeck (W/M 36 yrs) of Many, LA. The Saturn was initially south bound on I-49 exiting onto LA Hwy 174 prior to the collision. Mr. McCardle failed to yield, prior to entering the intersection, to Mr. Strebeck’s vehicle, which was east bound, on LA Hwy 174. At this time, Mr. Strebeck’s vehicle collided with the passenger’s side of the Saturn. Mr. McCardle received moderate injuries and was transported to Natchitoches Regional Hospital. His only passenger, Mr. Christopher P. Hampton (W/M 24 yrs) of Natchitoches, LA, received serious injuries and was transported to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, LA. Seatbelt use is unknown, at this time, for both of these men. Mr. Strebeck received minor injuries, but refused medical aid. He was wearing his seatbelt. Routine toxicology tests and charges are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
