Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: October 8, 2008 Moreauville Police Officer Injured In Crash While Directing Traffic On Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at 7:45 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to an injury crash involving one vehicle and one pedestrian. The crash occurred on LA Hwy 1 at LA Hwy 114. This location is in Avoyelles Parish. The crash involved an Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office Chevrolet van, driven by Officer/Transportation Driver Claude Ferguson and a pedestrian, identified as Officer Boyd Blankenship (Moreauville Police Department). Officer Blankenship was standing in the north bound lane, near the centerline, of LA Hwy 1 directing traffic. He was assisting the Moreauville Volunteer Fire Department with a training exercise. The Chevrolet was north bound when it struck Officer Blankenship. Officer Blankenship suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Rapides Regional Medical Center. He was not wearing a reflective vest at the time of the collision. Officer/Transportation Driver Ferguson was not injured. The crash remains under investigation.
