Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: October 1, 2008 Louisiana State Police Region II Receives New Commander On Monday, September 29, 2008, Colonel Michael Edmonson promoted Barry Branton to the rank of Louisiana State Police Captain. Prior to his appointment, Captain Branton held the rank of Lieutenant. Region II is headquartered in Alexandria, LA and encompasses all of Troop E (Alexandria), Troop I (Lafayette), Troop D (Lake Charles), Troop G (Shreveport), and Troop F (Monroe). He began his law enforcement career in 1987 with the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office. While employed with the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office he served as a supervisor in the Narcotics Section and a supervisor in the Patrol Section. In 1990, he was hired as a Louisiana State Police Trooper at Troop E. In 1993, he transferred to the Louisiana State Police Gaming Section. While in this section, he was promoted twice. In 1996, he obtained the rank of Sergeant and in 2004 obtained the rank of Lieutenant. As a Lieutenant, in this section, he served as a supervisor for the Lafayette and Lake Charles regions. As the Commander of Region II Bureau of Investigations, he will manage the Insurance Fraud Unit, Narcotics Section, and the Detectives Section in the above-mentioned areas. He has attended and completed numerous management and law enforcement related schools/classes. Captain Branton has been married for 18 years to Mrs. Angie Branton. Mrs. Branton is also deeply involved with community service. She is employed by the Rapides Parish Communication Center (911 Center). They have two children and are proud residents of Alexandria. Captain Branton is proud and honored to serve as Region II’s new Commander. He is looking forward to fostering and enhancing Louisiana State Police’s relationships with local and federal agencies. He will continue to actively support and encourage community involvement. Captain Branton stated, “Our mission and several of our goals are to aggressively enforce/arrest and deter sexual predators that target our children and our community, child pornography crimes, violent crimes, and narcotics offenders. We will work in conjunction with local and federal agencies and use every resource available to make our community safer”.
