Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: August 25, 2008 Troop E Commander Promoted To Region II Major On Monday, August 18, 2008, Colonel Michael Edmonson promoted Joel “Young” Kilpatrick to the rank of Louisiana State Police Major. Prior to his appointment, Major Kilpatrick held the rank of Captain. Region II is headquartered in Alexandria, Louisiana and encompasses all of Troop E (Alexandria), Troop I (Lafayette), Troop D (Lake Charles), Troop G (Shreveport), and Troop F (Monroe). He began his career in 1979 as a Uniform Trooper at Troop B (New Orleans). In 1980, he transferred to Troop E and in 1987 was promoted to Sergeant. In 1998, he was promoted to Lieutenant and in 2006 was promoted to Captain. Major Kilpatrick’s career accomplishments include being a member of the Louisiana State Police Tactical/S.W.A.T. team from 1981 to 1998 and the Region II Mobile Field Force supervisor from 1999 to 2006. He has also served as a Field Training Officer and as an Instructor and Duty Officer at the Louisiana State Police Training Academy in Baton Rouge. Major Kilpatrick has also participated in numerous details over his career including the annual Mardi Gras detail in New Orleans, the Super Bowl, the State Capital Legislative Detail, the Republican Governors Conference, the Space Shuttle Columbia recovery effort, the Hurricane Katrina detail in New Orleans, and served as a viable asset during the Jena Six protest/rally. Major Kilpatrick was born in Monroe, LA, but now resides in Natchitoches, LA with his wife, Mrs. Jeri Kilpatrick. They are the proud parents of three sons (Ryan Kilpatrick, Jared Kilpatrick, and Ethan Parker) and one daughter (Tarah Parker-Babers). Major Kilpatrick is proud to serve as the Region II Major and is looking forward to maintaining the Louisiana State Police’s high standard of professionalism. His hard work, enthusiasm, willingness to help others, and dedication to the public and to State Police are just a few character traits that allowed him to obtain this position.
