Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: September 11, 2008 Pedestrian Killed In Avoyelles Parish Crash On Thursday, September 11, 2008, at 6:18 am, Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a fatal crash involving one vehicle and one pedestrian. The crash occurred on LA Hwy 1, milepost 244.9, in Avoyelles Parish. This location is north of Marksville, LA. The crash involved a 2001 Ford pickup, driven by Mr. John A. Tucker Jr. (W/M 43 yrs) of Hessmer, LA and a pedestrian, identified as Mr. Tony L. Kelley (B/M 32 yrs) of Marksville, LA. Prior to the crash, the Ford was south bound and LA Hwy 1 and a sanitation vehicle was parked/stopped partially in the north bound lane and partially on the shoulder of LA Hwy 1. Mr. Kelley, an employee of the sanitation company, walked into the south bound lane in which the Ford was traveling. The Ford then collided with Mr. Kelley in the south bound lane. Mr. Kelley was pronounced dead at the scene. Mr. Tucker Jr. received minor injuries and was transported to Avoyelles Hospital. Routine toxicology tests are pending. Avoyelles Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct an investigation to determine the exact cause of death. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E Troopers have investigated 44 fatal crashes for the year of 2008, resulting in 49 fatalities. Seven of the 44 fatal crashes have involved pedestrians. Five fatal crashes have involved an ATV and two have involved a motorcycle. Twenty-four of the 30 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Eight fatal victims were restrained.
